Artist description One of the most original bands to call Las Vegas home, the MELANCHOLICS have built a solid rep as a tight, groove oriented, pop-rock quintet, drawing on diverse background influences from world beat, island folk, jazz, Brit-pop and alternative genres, with Jaymejack (Manila) on vocals and acoustic guitar, Dwight David (Manila) on vocals, bass and keyboards, Dr. Ed Malik (Boston) on drums, Phil “Chilly” Chamberlain (Ohio) on guitar synthesizers, and Federico Galvan (Chihuahua) on Latin percussions. The group came together over the last five years, performing regularly in Las Vegas and California, and has released two independent CD’s, appeared on several industry compilation, garnered North American and International radio play including the Dr. Demento Radio Show, scored a soundtrack single, appeared at several industry showcases and festivals and battle of the bands. They were finalists in the Musician Magazine Best Unsigned band competition. Live performance highlights have included appearances at the Hard Rock Hotel Joint, AngelCiti Film and Music awards, MP3.com talent showcase and an opening set with international star, Bamboo. Television appearances have included Backstage Live, N-Side Track, Pomona Expo and Pahrumpstock. The band has strong presence on the internet, represented on dozens of sites, logging thousands of hits on MP3.com, rated top 10 on garageband.com, frequently requested on PhilRadio.com. Las Vegas City Life Magazine said of the band, “The Melancholics continue to raise the standard of the Las Vegas music scene”, and rated the band’s release ****1/2. Five-One Magazine selected “Scrumptdillyumptious” as album of the year, 1999 and the Melancholics as Best Live Show in 2000. Their current catalog contains 75 songs in 3 languages. They are currently recording two new full-length releases on their own label, one for Asian release.
