Artist description Offset comes straight from the outskirts of Grand Rapids, MI, putting a new spin on the sound of rock music. This four-piece band throws out a mixture of hard rock blended with Jazz, and spiced up with a little funky punk to create a unique style no one can recreate. The band members of Offset are Justin Gunnink (vocals), Derek Sterenberg (guitar), Tim Van Der Heide (bass), and Brad Vander Lugt (drums). Lead guitarist Derek Sterenberg grew up in a small country home in Caledonia, MI, and began to express an interest in music at a very young age, starting on the piano, and eventually learning trumpet and guitar as well as other instruments. His playing style has been influenced mostly by hard rock and funk/jazzy bands like Incubus, Tool, Creed, and the great Steve Vai. Bass player Tim Van Der Heide comes from a musically-gifted family out of Kentwood, MI. Being able to play baritone along with the tuba at an early age gave him just the edge he needed to play the bass guitar. Tim, having a variety of playing styles, also has a variety of influences including Incubus, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Creed, and System of a Down. Lead vocalist Justin Gunnink has been immersed in music his entire life. He grew up in Kentwood, MI, and has become very skilled with his voice as well as guitar and piano. Justin’s singing style has been very influenced by Brandon Boyde of the band Incubus. Drummer Brad Vander Lugt grew up in a small town, Alaska Michigan. He loved music even at a very young age. Growing on that love for music he began notice beats and rhythms in music, which eventually led to playing percussion, and then the drum kit. He is influenced by tight rhythms and funky beats, from bands like Incubus, 311, and Tool.
