Artist description
Paul Cannata is a self-taught singer/songwriter with a vibrant ability for creating unique and original sounds. His unique acoustic guitar style and intense vocals can at times border on aggressive punk rock, but is always underlined with interesting technical progressions. The music he creates is powerful and incisive, whether it is a multi-layered song or a poetic acoustic one; it always delivers a profound and powerful feeling. Drawing from a solid acoustic sound, his debut album, "The Last Modern Dance" delivers a soft intensity that runs through the 12-track album, leaving a melodic groove to linger in the listener's head. Paul's music has been based out of Toronto for 4 years now, playing solo gigs around town as well as being a member of "Something Fierce"(no longer together) whose most notable performance was at the 2000 War Child benefit show, opening for Andy Stochansky and Big Sugar's Gordie Johnson, which was followed by an interview with indievoice.com. Paul is also a very politically minded person, who loves to tackle social issues through his lyrics and music. In listening to this album you can find a strong social conscious emanating through all the song, challenging our desire to change our world.
The live show is where the intensity of this singer/songwriter lies. The passion that comes through his voice and the raw emotion pounding through his guitar can be felt with an amazing presence leaving you edging your seat. He has been known to bleed on his guitar out of sheer intensity. In a single moment the show can become riveting with beauty as his soft intensity pushes through some of the most thought provoking and passionate acoustic pieces leaving you to wonder who the hell is fucking him. On occasion he may even drop the audience his version of Buckley's/Cohen's "Hallelujah" or maybe "Last Goodbye", in any case the live show is well worth it.
