    Artist description
Somewhere during the recording of Too True to be Good, I lost a piece of who I was. Rhetoric and Disillusionment was a void chamber in which I was reliving old memories. I knew I had to get it up, even though I would never be satisfied with its outcome. Recording and writing is a proccess of stages of learning. Too True to be Good was that first stage. Big Brother is Watching is about finding myself, musically and personally, and I think thus far, it is very well reflected in the music. In the end, you've got to be yourself- got to be happy with what or who you are. So I take my own name... and I take a piece of myself back and find new pieces falling into place.

    Artist History
It started rather informal. John asked me to sit in with his band. The arrangement was interesting, but fatal. A bassist, who happened to play drums (John), another bassist, who happened to play guitar and sing (that's me, Matt), a budding bassist, who only played bass, and a vocalist. The vocalist flaked out, never showing up for practices, the bassist knew nothing but punk rock bass lines, and John and I both yearned to play a bit of bass, but had nobody to fill the other spots. And that is all that became of that. For a brief bit of time, I worked with a fantastic keyboard player and vocalist named Damon Clement. We played some cover tunes with some local musicians but never really went anywhere with it. After awhile, John and I hooked up again, this time with a brilliant guitarist named Doug Reilly. We sat down and put together the start of what we have here. We decided, after some discussion, that acoustic was the way to go. We sat down, all three with acoustic guitars and immediately put together Tangent. It was initially comprised of riffs we had individually tooled around with that, as luck would have it, fit together nicely. Inside an hour, we had a rough outline for the song. After about another hour we discovered that inside the blended guitar of the body was a melody line. Doug through a solo at the beginning and suddenly, we had a complete song. We recorded tangent on John's four track recorder, mainly because my computer at the time (a 486-66 for those who are curious) couldn't handle mutitrack digital recording. Hell, it could barely load Windows 95. I have left Tangent as an analog recording and just cleaned it up for the album. I thing the analog warmth picks up the flavor of the song better than if I had re-recorded it digitally. The band from there made many transitions. We plugged in for awhile and strayed from our acoustic base. John went home to Indiana, and Doug an I decided to try our hand a swing and jazz with drummer, Jason Dustin and keyboardist, Damon Clement. We went through a couple of female vocalists, Allisa Smith (featured in Insanity), and Kelly Fox. Doug moved to California. John moved back to Las Vegas, and we hooked up once again, and migrated back to our original base, this time with the intent of performing our music, and some cover songs. But Jason ended up getting sent overseas for awhile, and John and I were left without a drummer. Before John moved to Indiana, yet again, and before I ended up overseas in Guam, John and I showed up for open mic night at a coffee shop in Vegas, called The Java Joint. We sat in with host Christopher Hodgsen on a few songs, and then took our turn in the spotlight, playing a few of our pieces for the audience. I have since endeavored to piece an album together of what we had done together. John and I have talked at length over the internet. I have recorded some of the music that never got recorded and have written a few new pieces for inclusion. I hope that one day I can sit down with John, Doug, and Jason, and professionally record and release this. For now, I tried to capture as best I could without my companions, the essence of the music.
