Artist description
How do you communicate those emotions that are so intense that no physical expression or series of words can even scratch the surface? Quietdrive has the answer to that question. The music of this up and coming midwestern band will reach inside of you and touch parts of your soul you didn't even know existed. They will throw a wrench in your system; you will stop and listen, because you cannot deny the depth and absolute gut wrenching purity of raw emotion. In an age where it is easiest to become just another face in the crowd, Quietdrive strays from mediocrity, proving to the listener that there is still much more that can be discovered when mixing emotion with music.
Godsofmusic.com's John Merall said this about a Quietdrive song, "The song is stirring and dramatic, and is played with enough emotion and musical precision to bring everything together perfectly." There is a strong pop sensibility moving within a cutting edge rock sound, all of which is mixed together with a strong backbone of jazz and reggae influences. That is what makes the music of Quietdrive so refreshing and compelling. By pushing musical bounds that few bands bother to press, Quietdrive aims beyond defying musical genres by consistently creating new sounds in their music.
With an ever-growing fan base of loyal young people, Quietdrive has started to permeate the world with its music, and vows to always progress and improve. Fans come to Quietdrive performances not only to connect with real music, but also for a groundbreaking performance. Full throttle energy meets on-stage acrobatics, flying kicks and vigorous abuse of instruments and bodies. This only proves to accentuate the intensity of the Quietdrive ideology. Lead singer Kevin Truckenmiller explains, "The only sure thing in life is change, and I hope that through this lifetime we'll be able to change as much as we could have, by reaching for something truly imaginative and purposeful."
Truckenmiller offers challenging psychological statements that tear open the bonds of typical lyricism and force the listener to delve deep into the most abstract places of their mind. Choruses are catchy and yet avoid rock clichés, offering instead new approaches to memorable phrases that you will find yourself singing in your sleep. This matched with a voice refreshingly pure and able to transcend any melody to a spiritual level.
The guitar work of 20 year-old Justin Bonhiver is cutthroat and unapologetic. Bringing forth ambitious and urgent riffs that will rattle the brain. At the same time he knows when to take the back-seat to melody and provide instead mood altering atmosphere that sucks the audience right in to an intimate private performance.
Percussionist Brandon Lanier and bassist Droo Hastings constantly manage to stretch the bounds of traditional groove, often times finding a jazz or reggae feel and mixing breakneck rhythm with fearless attitude. This creates intricate imagery within an undeniably rock solid sound.
In today's cynicism it takes something truly profound to inspire a person. One minute with Quietdrive will do just that, and if nothing else, a listener can lear from their the band's work ethic. Truckenmiller articulates, "After awhile, we just knew that without complete commitment to our music, nothing life-changing was going to result from it. We all sat down and talked it over, and decided to put our personal lives on the back burner and dedicate our lives whole heartedly to what we do."
That is but a passing glimpse of a band that demands that you dig a little deeper. The only true way to understand Quietdrive is by listening, and when you do, ask yourself this. Do you have the drive?
"It's all I can do to break away from anyone
Rips cuts scars across like painting glycerin
But I'll take my heart and brain and fight until I fall."
