Artist description
On September 11, they all watched in shock as both towers of the world trade center collapsed as a result of a terrorist attack on the United States. They will never forget that day when so many innocent lives were lost. "Fear of Flying" was adopted as the name as token to people who lost their lives on that most tragic day. |

Artist History
Fear of Flying officially became a band in July of 2001 with long time friends / past band mates Jason Burton (guitar) Scott Gupton (drums). With nothing better to do after work, Jason & Scott began writing songs in Scott's garage. Occasionally, people in the neighborhood would show up and listen to them play. Back then they didn't even have a PA, so none of their songs had any words. Eventually, they decided that it was time they started looking for a bass player. Jason contacted one of his old friends, Todd Ellis to see if he was interested. It just so happened that he and Brian Cody were looking for a drummer and the rest is history. Well not quite. In March of 2002, due to conflict of interests it was decided that Scott needed to leave the band. With 3 weeks before their scheduled studio time, Fear of Flying was without a drummer. It wasn't easy finding someone of fit the band, luckily through mutual friends, Fear of Flying decided to give Jonathan Boswell a chance to try out. At first it was very difficult, because Jonny's musical background was very different from the rest of the band. He was a jazz drummer, and not use to the hard in your face type of style of Fear of `Flying. Once he became familiar with their style, he took it to all new levels. Fear of Flying had gained depth, which was exactly what they needed.
Fear of Flying brings a positive message about following your dreams, regardless of how you are perceived by others. It is about stopping to enjoy what the simple things in life have to offer. It's about brotherhood and family. Life is tough, but it definitely helps to have a shoulder to lean on. Their music has the ability to lift you up when life has got you down.
What makes Fear of Flying unique is there ability to blend different styles of punk, post hardcore, and indie rock. Some of there influences are: Jaw Breaker, Television, Elliot, Zao, Lifetime, Face to Face, Hot Rod Circuit, Cursive, Inside, Hot Water Music, Gorilla Biscuits, Wardance Orange, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Avail. |
