Artist History
Visqueen formed in 2001 when best friends Rachel Flotard and Ben Hooker found themselves covered in the ashes of their former band Hafacat. Unwilling to give up their connection, the two continued to work on songs while hunting for a bass player. Meanwhile, having heard Hafacat, Fastbacks front woman Kim Warnick noted that she and Flotard not only shared like-sounding vocals, but also appreciated the same kind of sunny, harmony-laden power pop. Though Warnick was in her 23rd year standing in front of her legendary band, she willingly jumped to a spot on the sidelines when Rachel humbly requested they collaborate. Like any first encounter between loud instruments and new acquaintances, theirs was raw and straying. Yet brief moments of potency and the dynamic they shared were enough to suggest this start was worth pursuing. Plus, they all cracked each other up and got along famously. The following weeks and months served as the cement that today bonds Visqueen.
The last year has given rise to recording sessions with Barrett Jones (Foo Fighters et al) as well as performances alongside Guided By Voices, Buffalo Daughter, Cheap Trick, the New Pornographers, Alien Crime Syndicate, the Maroons and The Posies.
Visqueen will release a 7" single in July of 2002, followed shortly by a full-length debut.
