Artist History
Everyone in this country has grown up listening to, loving and hating all styles of music. Whether you have grown up as a hell raiser and bone breaker or a lover not a fighter, LIKE SONIA has something here for you. This is a diversely styled, melodic rock band "influenced" by classic rock and the "styles" of jazz guitar and piano, as well as world beat and classical percussion. LIKE SONIA has a combination of grit and a clean, lucid sound that is a direct result of the ripping electric and acoustic electric guitars, earth shattering keyboards, simmering vocals and insightful lyrics.
Chemistry is everything! With the line up of Craig Abbott, lead vocals and guitars; Stephen Segarra, keyboards and synth bass; Greg Diamond, drums, percussion, LIKE SONIA is just that...good chemicals. Craig Abbott and Greg Diamond met while getting their degrees in music, and they have consistently maintained the ability to captivate and draw an audience. With the addition of Stephen Segarra brings raw power and movie soundtrack fullness and depth.
LIKE SONIA has been recording and gigging consistently in New York City clubs such as; The Elbow Room, CBGBs, The Bitter End, CBGB313, Baggot Inn, Kennys Castaways, Spiral, Solas, Lions Den and The Red Lion. The band also performs for an expanding audience in areas outside of NYC such as Philly, Boston and upstate NY. From their current original 35-song set-list, LIKE SONIA has released their 14 track CD, I WAS AN UNKNOWN.
CRAIG ABBOTT has spent the two years prior to LIKE SONIA playing with a signed NYC band before organizing this band at the beginning of 1998. Craig received his B.A. in guitar performance and composition from Humboldt University of California. Before moving to New York, he played with various rock and jazz bands in Chicago while taking up graduate studies in jazz performance at DePaul University.
STEPHEN SEGARRA played 6yrs. of wizardry style keyboards with Westchesters, Autumns Fall a Black Metal band. He is also an accomplished guitarist and is currently studying piano under Connie Crothers (a Lennie Tristano protégé). Stephens keyboard style brings enriching movie soundtrack fullness to LIKE SONIA.
GREG DIAMOND toured with the 1996 Grateful Dead Production, Further Festival, with the percussion/dance group Samba Nova. He has shared the stage with the likes of Bruce Hornsby, Carlos Santana, Micky Hart, Zakir Hussein, Giananni Hidalgo, David Garibaldi, The Mint Juleps, and the percussion/juggling act of The Flying Karomazov Brothers. He gigged consistently in the Los Angeles, Orange County area with several rock, alternative and world music groups. Greg is a graduate of the California Institute of Arts in Valencia where he received his Masters of Fine Arts in multi-focus percussion.
