    Artist description
Great music electrifies the human spirit. Its textures ravish the soul, and, like all great lovers, leaves us sated. So it is with the sounds from the BPM Project. At its inception in December, 1999, the BPM Project was a meeting of minds amongst a few professional musicians who all love the speed and energy of today’s urban/dance music. It has since grown to a large collective of some of the country's top musicians and writers. The list of artists include members of innovative bands like The Nylons, ROAR, Brother Love Canal, Kuru, and large professional ensembles including The Canadian Opera Company, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Tafelmusik, recent music graduates and full-time session singers. Diversity being inherent in such a spectrum of individuals, the group has nonetheless culled a common vision and goal that has become their calling card. Their first priority? Fun. For themselves and for the dance floors of today. Second, though not secondary, to add a live orchestral aesthetic to the already enduring electronic litany of the genre. Composer/Arranger/Producer, Bryan Greenwood, is the catalyst behind this enterprise and the originator of the Project's underlying dynamics. He is master visionary, responsible for the group's ultimate timbre. The compositions recorded by the BPM Project reflect the singularity of its membership. Musical nuances change from song to song depending on the members gathered for the sessions. Each piece of music is linked to the next by Bryan Greenwood's sonic architecture. Each piece is unique for the innuendo every player adds to the composition. The BPM Project does not present us with the star power of personalities, opting for a more altruistic approach: the music is the true star here. The BPM Project's roots separate it's style from other dance music, yielding an altogether unique flavour. The infusion of classical harmony and structure with the 21st century's electronic invasion brings a vibrant spirit to club music. Augmenting original compositions and acoustic performance, samples and electronic manipulation are creative tools rather than the creative focus. With the BPM Project's skilled musicians, extraordinary music and powerful inspiration drives the dance floor. BPM Project's key single releases are remixed by DJs and producers who savour the opportunity to work with a repertoire of new sounds. The result is a charismatic magnetism that permeates not only the BPM Project recorded releases, but also the remixes intended for different club venues. This is dance music for music connoisseurs: funky, driving, hard-core rhythms interwoven with the more subtle techniques used to score film, symphony and opera. The BPM Project takes the dancers on a cinematic sonic adventure where they revel in a Technicolor rainbow of acoustic and electronic textures -- a finely crafted sanctuary for soul-searching sound journeys on the dance floor.

    Artist History
The BPM Project's first release responds to the ongoing international dispute over Raves. The debate has often been characterized by misleading pronouncements and unfavourable generalizations about those who attend. The issue is further confused by public statements made by government officials and police personnel. Save The Rave brings sense and sensibility back to the discussion. We have been here before, of course. The discussion is an old one we seem doomed to repeat time and again. In the last millenium, political powers have repeatedly sought to quell dance and gatherings of dancers: 16th century Croatia, 17th century Ireland, 18th century Scotland, 19th and 20th century United States. (Remember the Charleston? The Jitterbug? Rock and Roll?) Dancers struggle to keep above ground again and again. At the outset of a new millenium, Ravers are no different than dancers of yesterday. Legislative bodies have learned little: they still believe they can authorize dance. Dancers prove otherwise. Dance is a celebration of human spirit. Pure. Simple. Why try to repress what is innate to us all? History already proves the case - in cannot be done. Nor should it.
