Artist description Welcome to the world of Cool dry Place. Where the planets of the feverish stage show, the scrawls of the back-alley poet, and the hypnotic flutter of drum and bass rhythms align for a spell of 4 minute pop tunes. Cool dry Place will help you escape and still bring something back from the trip. The band was born from just two phone calls. Frustrated with LA’s coffee shop scene, vocalist/guitarist Matt Kap answered an ad that drummer Mark Nelson had taken out in a local paper. Mark had been reared on the once-thriving techno scene of Tampa, Florida, and was anxious to dove-tail his rave-atmosphere electronic rhythms with old-fashioned organic instruments. Quickly realizing their need for a solid grooving bassist, Matt and Mark cast their net in Los Angeles to find the right addition to their chemistry. After just one phone conversation, Chris Steuber, who still had North Carolina mud on his boots, soon found himself in a closet-sized space jamming with the others. Cool dry Place live, breathe, and fast for their music. They skulk around Hollywood, they joke like brothers, and given the chance, they’ll quickly convince you they’re mad for what they do. Although their musical tastes all come from opposite ends of the earth, these guys have somehow managed to create something that is greater than each of them. As a trio, they can behave like a swelling orchestra or break music down to its barest bones. Heavily influenced by 80’s Euro-trash, electronica, drum and bass, and the like, Cool dry Place is a reedy baritone, unlikely pop rhythms; and something more to keep your over-stimulated 21st Century urban antenna twitching. In just a few months Cool dry Place has begun to throb through the clubs of Los Angeles. At their first humble show at UCLA’s Westwood Brewing Company, the band yanked on the fickle attentions of the college crowds and soon became a permanent fixture. Having fueled their confidence, they’ve since played such Hollywood clubs as the Mint, the Joint, the Martini Lounge, and The Knitting Factory and have just completed recording a four song EP in the studio.
