    Artist description
The Pacific - Mystery of the Stars, Rating 3-1/2 of 4 stars, Daily Breeze, Redondo Beach, CA January 24, 2003 "There's no emo-core, pop-punk, alt.country, nu-metal, rap-rock fusion or any other hyphenations on this debut by the South Bay's own THE PACIFIC. Instead, this five-song mini-album serves up an increasingly rare commodity: tuneful, tuneful, guitar based rock 'n' roll performed with passion and skill. The band's soaring melodies, crisply rendered instrumentation of Curt Barlage's powerful, slightly rasply vocals draw inspiration from British bands such as Oasis. "See to Believe," bears a strong Gallagher brother's influence, but without the snotty attitudes and macho posturing. While the Brit-Rock resemblance may be noticeable, it's not the only thing going on here. The densely layered guitars that drive the title track ebb and flow masterfully at turns chiming softly, then bursting into energetic flourishes that make the song fly, despite its 6 minute length. "Mystery of the Stars," is superbly recorded, with an unusually full-bodied, vivid sound for an independent project. Its songs buzz with enough dynamics, inventiveness and enthusiasm to make on think THE PACIFIC might not be just a local band for much longer." Sam Gnerre - Writer
