Artist History
Animus began in Holland, MI in the fall of 1999 with members Mike De Young (guitar, vocals), Steve Kiekintveld (bass), Red (guitar), and Brad Deters (drums). They started out playing simple Metallica covers. Eventually they started to write some original material. Differences split them apart and a new lineup was needed.
In April 2000 Mike hooked up with a long time aquaintance, Josh Loomis. With Steve and Red the band expanded its playing skills and started to play iron maiden and black sabbath tunes. Eventually Red left for art school and they were on hold again.
Feeling that they had too much of a good thing to waste, Josh, Steve and Mike decided to find a new singer (Mike wasnt cutting it, and needed to focus on guitar anyway). They ended up with Andy Wallace, a friend of Mike's from school. Starting in the Fall of 2000, they began to practice for the next 5 months. They tried to get into the Hope Battle of the Bands, but they were rejected for being too metal. After playing a New Years Eve show, they again lost interest and by the end of January 2001, were no longer practicing.
In June of 2001, Josh thought they should get back together and called Ryan Fluharty (guitar), to come jam with them. Steve decided he had to take over the vocals in the band when no other option presented itself. Things went well and they started to practice more and more. By the time school started that fall, they were practicing 4 or more days a week, and had about 8 cover songs they were playing. Starting in October they began to write original material, and their efforts combined into their recent May 22, 2002 cd release "Acts of Chaos".

Press Reviews
"Great stuff! I particularly like the guitar work. The drums are excellent. What a difference a live drummer makes. Your music has the raw edge of old Black Sabbath with a touch of early Metallica. Keep up the hard rocking."
"you guys sure do have a lot of talent! that last song "the damned" i liked a lot,i thought you all sounded a lot like megadeth in that one! great work, keep it up! "
