Artist description
The band's music has recently appeared in the animated TV series “GIRLSTUFF BOYSTUFF” on YTV in Canada. They have acquired interest from management companies and are catching the ears of the record industry. The band has an obsessive, but freewheeling and heady, adventurous feel in their music, which leaves you wanting more every time. Bit like cigarettes with the good bits left in. Some people would kill for the X factor, but The High Planets have no need to get blood on their hands. Thanks for listening. Listen on.http://www.thehighplanets.co.uk |

Artist History
The High Planets were formed by Stuart in 1998. They played the gigs, got the interest from the labels, got invited to the showcase gig but after a couple of members left to pursue more earthly careers, The ‘Planets were in real need of a transplant. Stuart threw away the old 4 track, got a computer and learnt how to plug his guitar into it. Pretty soon he had plugged in any sound he felt like. Tim Mackenzie was still around from the first line up and started banging beats together using software samplers and getting into arranging the sounds. Eamonn Hennessy a song writing partner of Stuarts from earlier bands joined bringing his inspired keyboard and guitar skills and a new unique High Planets sound emerged.
The High Planets tried their luck with this unique sound and on the cusp of the millennium released their new single Weapon of Love to the world via MP3, launching their website www.thehighplanets.co.uk in the process. It spread across the web like a rash. Pretty soon it was being hosted by Sonique MP3 Player along side Beck, Ice T, and Moby, and being showcased by Real.com. The track was downloaded in it’s tens of thousands and was being swapped on Napster daily. This spurred the band, they kept up the formula of releasing stuff by MP3, getting online interest and rave reviews. |

Press Reviews
HIGH PLANETS TRIP THROUGH THE WEB The boys from The High planets are still soaring miles up there in the stratosphere. They take their sound to new musical heights on their curent CD named "Weapon Of Love". This time they're of on a dance trip reminiscent of tracks by Cafe Del Mar, Leftfield, and even Air. There's a realvariety on this cd and they have made interesting use of samples to create haunting effects. The bands website has been attracting more than 1000 visitors a month and some of their music can be downloaded from the site. they record using computer software that allows them to use samples and record instruments and vocals straight into the computer. they are also cutting their own CD's, producing the artwork and promoting themselves on the web. Stuart Villarroel of the band says: "We feel no need to go grovelling to the record companies." The CD is on sale at Play It Again Records in Lancaster Market and costs 3.00. Review By Ingrid Kent of "Lancaster and Morecambe Visitor"The High Planets ALL OUT TO SEASiskel:" Lovely track -- hooked me immediately with the harp at the beginning. Great Beatlesque touches throughout the song."Ebert:" Gene, I agree about the Beatles comparison: reminded me of "Tomorrow Never Knows" at times. The vocals are a little too laid back for me, but still an enjoyable song." Review By Siskel and Ebert on MP3.com! |
