Artist description
Based in the capitol city of California is The Council, an assertive five piece, high impact metal band. This quintet has been patiently, yet diligently shaping an extremely powerful sound since the early months of 1996. Wisely awaiting maturity in arcane deliberation, The Council created an impressive concoction of thunderous jungle beats, attack dog guitar chops, bruising bass lines and rich, "pay attention to what I'm saying", type vocals. |

Press Reviews
April 10, 2000. Reviewed by Shera Oliver (Sacramento News & Review) -While too many metal bands have been jumping on every flavor of the month bandwagon from "Adidas Rock" to "Goth-inspired industrial rackets, THE COUNCIL has stuck with its own tradmark sound. Which isn't to say that there's been no growth or change; the Sacramento band's new CD, DEMONSTRATIVE, has been methodically arranged to evoke a sound every bit as intense and thought-provoking as it is heavy. The intro starts off with vocalist, Dave, posing the question "Do you really even exist?" before busting out with head-tripping, heavy riffs on "Pokerface". Songs such as "Freaky on the Fly" and "I Want Out" demonstrate the band's versatile arrangements, particularly in framing Dave's delivery. His lyrics range from serious to outright funny, as on "Sticky Fingers". Put into three words, it's high-impact metal. This is one that you'll have to crank very, very loud -- like to 11. -------------------------- Fall issue of INFORMUSIC, reviewed by Leonard SanchezTHE COUNCIL's fourth srudio release leaves no doubt as to who owns Nor Cal's hardcore turf. having already opened up shows for SLAYER and MERCYFUL FATE, as well as LIMP BIZKIT, they've built a raucous, loyal cult following. What seperates DEMONSTRATIVE from the hoard of other extreme releases is the mommoth guitar assault compliments of James Pastore and Michael Gardner. Check out the down-tuned guitar harmonies in the groovy verses of Plag, the punkish breakdowns in Pokerface and the machine-like rhythms in Freaky and Twice. The Rythm section, bassist Rob Klingel (since replaced by Mike Ottovich) and drummer Steve ' OG" Williams, is rock solid and adventurous, but it's the varying guitar textures that give DEMONSTRATIVE its depth and substance. The sparse guitar solos are short, spirited and to the point. Frontman, Dave's, throaty, caveman grunt is pure hardcore: not for the weak of ears. His lyrics are fresh and insightful. They get my vote for the next to launch out of Sacramento. |
