Artist History
Baltimore, 1997: wealthy international business tycoons donate Pentium 60 computer to young Spacemonkey. Soon after that, Spacemonkey finds that it is very easy to put together little midi tunes on this new, free computer! It's so easy that he makes a few catchy tunes like "Rainbow Lightbulb, "Squidge" and "Snorp." Before long, Spacemonkey becomes addicted to the Internet, the Art Bell Radio Show, pizza delivery and to computer music! Long live MP3 dot COM! |

Press Reviews
MP3 Download of the Day: Spacemonkey By Joe Berkofsky - If David Bowie and Mister Rogers had a rock-and-roll love child, what kind of a person would it be? His name would be Spacemonkey, the band otherwise known as Dereck Krause, whose tune Neighborhood would be a bizarre anthem. Spacemonkey, who says he draws from bands such as Killer Vegetation, the Cars, and The Cure, has a pretty wacky oeuvre to begin with. Tunes like Spanish Fling and Dog Spies are typically weird examples. But Neighborhood ventures further into the musical Twilight Zone. Think Bowie in a cardigan during his Heroes phase, singing the chorus "Would you be mine?" over and over and over. So very strange, but quite true and very downloadable. -ZDNet, Internet Tonight, Music Online |
