Press Reviews
"If you like dark drones with rich textures, then Pandataria should definitely be to your liking. From the 14 minutes of pure shimmering drift music of "TRACK 1" to the minimal but beautiful "TRACK 8," fans of this sort of thing should be downright ecstatic, if one gets that way about such quiet, darkly contemplative music. In between, there are gems aplenty. "TRACK 2" develops ever-so-slightly, from deep murkiness into somewhat thicker textures as it continues. Throughout, it conjures up images of deep, dark, underwater trenches. Sounds seem to echo endlessly. Though it isn't exactly uplifting, it's not necessarily the stuff of nightmares, either. For example, "TRACK 3" has an unsettling (in a good way) effect, but it is still pretty in a sense. Some of the music is almost inaudible, as in the case of several stretches of "TRACK 4," but these nearly silent passages enhance the listening experience. "TRACK 5" is probably the most haunting, building nicely to its creepy crescendo. "TRACK 6" continues into fairly experimental realms, layering abstract sonic shapes with results that are simultaneously disquieting yet pleasing. "TRACK 7" strikes a similar ambient mode, until finishing somewhat brighter and prettier, relatively speaking, with the aforementioned closer. A promising work that should command attention from all fans of ambient drone music." -Phil Derby |
