Press Reviews
Hometown: Atlanta, GA, US Crashing forays in math-rock. Refreshingly more melodic than say Don Caballero or Shellac, FM aren't tripping down the sometimes slippery slope of innovative rhythms research. Not to say they're lacking in good old-fashioned bombast or rhythmic ambition -- there's a lot of well-executed bashing going on here and they deserve recognition for it. The staggering Doppler Effected rhythms of "Currently untitled #4" are warped and should be gratifying to the most discriminating math-rock enthusiasts. But those in search of song-oriented material with predictable, catchy hooks may not be wholly disappointed either -- glimpses of beautiful, heart-wrenching melody find their way to surface as well, making this a nicely well-rounded effort. - Kelly B.
