    Artist History
In July of 1999, these four guys joined together to enter a local battle of the bands competition. What was originally recreational and just in good fun turned out to be something a little more than they expected. After only two weeks of playing together, Thrown Aside placed third out of thirty three contestants that spanned the entire province. Things were quickly on the rise. A new love was found for them, which could only be fueled by more playing in front of others. And so, the band carried on past the expected departure date. Two months later, their first demo, which contained eight original songs, was recorded. Through out the rest of the year, they played in support of their demo. By luck, or perhaps it was fate, a local promoter got hold of their demo. He was so impressed that he invited Thrown Aside to play at a local music festival entitled "Gobblefest," which featured prominent bands such as SNFU and GOB. It would turn out to be a huge success for Thrown Aside, instantly making them popular among the local scene. As the word quickly spread, they would soon find themselves playing at the University College of CapeBreton festival, "1999 Frosh Week Celebrations." The new year rolled around quickly, and Thrown Aside saw that enough money had been raised through demo sales to enable them to record their second release. It included four tracks. The band used it as a promotional tool. Over two hundred were given away at different social events such as shows, skateboarding competitions, and other outlets that encompassed the punk rock crowd. Because of this, word quickly spread about Thrown Aside in nearby cities, which enabled the band to begin playing out of town on weekends. A fan base was growing in more than just their hometown. Traveling to the neighboring cities was quickly becoming a natural thing, and the band continued to work hard at doing what they love most. In the fall of 2000, Thrown Aside released their first EP entitled "Tires, Mufflers, and Lubejobs." It included both some old and some new material. Upon the release of the album, they began acting on a more widespread scale. Stepping over the border, they mailed literally hundreds of albums to punk zines and college radio stations across North America. Their hard work was recognized when they were offered to play a televised gig at the 2000 East-Coast music awards "72 hour jam," which was being held in the nearby city of Sydney, Nova Scotia. But it didn't stop there. The hard work continued and the band was again invited to play at 2000's "Gobblefest," which featured Gob along with bands such as The Weakerthans, who are comprised from former members of Propagandhi. The hard work never stopped, as Thrown Aside was back in the studio during the spring of 2001 to record their second EP entitled "What I've Learned About Girls." It would include two new songs. Upon the release, the band was contacted by a popular Brazillian punk zine, which held an interview with the band and highly promoted the new release. This would start the momentum of the EP, as the band spent the summer of 2001 consistently playing shows. Thrown Aside set out on an east-coast tour in support of the new release. The tour stretched across the east coast, and despite some sever vehicle problems, they managed to make each and every show that had been booked. They had effectively spread their infectious sound to a much wider region than all of their previous work combined had been able to do. Currently, Thrown Aside is writing new material for their first full length album due out in the winter of 2002. With graduation in the spring of 2002 looming ever so closely, the band plans to spend more time doing what they love to do: playing music. In their three years of existence, they have been fortunate enough to play with an endless number of great bands. The list will only grow as they plan on topping their touring from the previous year in support of their new album. The band also plans to begin touring regularly in the fall of 2002.
