Artist description
Formed in the fall of 2001, The Only Mistake came together in an unlikely spot for a post-punk influenced band: the deep south. More specifically, the outskirts of Memphis, Tennessee. Although that was their physical location, their hearts and heads were elsewhere. Following the sounds of the greats of the English post-punk scene, like Joy Division, The Sound, and Gang of Four, and riot grrl legends Sleater-Kinney, The Only Mistake carve out a sound that seems both from another time, and timeless.
Released in July of 2002, the Emergency Fury EP received a tremendous reception from fans and fellow musicians alike. The band immediately went back into the studio to record a second batch of new songs. These songs will be combined with the songs from Emergency Fury to create the bands first LP, due in early 2003. After they are done with these sessions, the band plans to hit the road and play live for the remainder of the year.
The Only Mistake was initially a side project for lead singer / guitarist Thomas Thompson. Looking for an outlet for his love of the post-punk movement of the late 70s and early 80s, Thompson began writing and demoing the songs that would become the Emergency Fury EP. After the implosion of his previous band, Thompson brought along Jonathan Shull from that band, and added in long-time friends Rebecca Austin and Edward Penny to complete the lineup.
The pathos and passion contained within the band is never more apparent than in their furious and chaotic live performances. Be on the lookout for their forthcoming LP and their performances throughout the country coming up in 200 |
