Artist History
Spectronica was born under a clear Bronx moon in the summer of '83. The baby spoon she wears around her neck reminds her of her humble beginnings; in a brownstone tenament with nothng but Phil Spector records to keep her and her foster father warm (literally- they didn't have a record player. They would throw the records into a bonfire they started in the middle of the studio apartment.) From an early age she knew she was destined for stardom. She won the "Ms.Bite Me, Wilbur" hot dog talent contest in Coney Island at the tender age of four, with a rendition of "Out In The Streets" by the Shangri-las. It wasn't long before the community made her a good-will ambassador to neighboring communities, which is where she met the Shubb sisters, Elva and Irma. Though they were a few years older than Spectronica, when they sung together it was like they were spun from one, silken cloth. Word spread to the entire street that something special was brewing. They initially called themselves "The Taste of Shubb", since there were two of them and one of Spectronica, but this all changed when they sung under the window of music maven, Earl Erville. Earl (as he preferred to be called) was known for blocks around for his grasp of beat, melody and girl groups, having created the popular girl group "She-bee Jeebies" back before you were born (yes, I'm talking to YOU. Now pay attention!) So transfixed was Earl after hearing Spectronica sing for her supper (literally) at the Spaghetti Barn directly below his headquarters, that he signed her to an exclusive fifty year contract, bringing the Shubb sisters along for the heady, rollercoaster ride of superstardom that would take them from over there to WAY over there to around the back. It's only now that they're releasing their greatest hits to the world- and not a moment too soon! |
