Artist description
Born a child of Babyalon, I-music seeks to translate the lessons of rasta into a language the average American can understand. Too many reggae artists are saying what's already understood and preaching to the choir. I'm doing my best to reach out. The music maintains the one drop, skanking style, but speaks out on issues like globalization, idol worship and even urban sprawl. I'm a journalist, neighborhood activist, gardener and footballer, who still believes music has the power to change the hearts of men. We like to have fun, to mix it up a bit with some Latino, ska or African beats, but really the music is just a vehicle to promote a message of peace, love and understanding. It's all in the service of
JAH the most I, god of Abraham, Jesus, Muhammad and all true prophets. peace!! |

Artist History
I've been playing reggae for about three years now, inspired by Bob Marley and the lack of message in modern music. I grew up in the suburbs, set on a path to SUVs and corporate climbing. But in college I got into reggae and saw through the myth of America. I realized that every rich person makes their money off another and the system is rigged to benefit the wealthy. But what could I do about it? I decided to become a journalist and after a few years realized the world's problems couldn't be solved in black and white (print that is). I spent a year on St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, and learned much about rasta and reggae. After returning to Memphis I picked up a guitar and all these songs started coming out. I've played several shows
here, but I've mostly focused on songwriting. Right now, I working on building a band for a recording session next month. |

Writing songs, singing and skanking, ras-I is the driving force behind SONS OF SOIL. I've been posting cuts from old shows, and the line-up is different almost every time. Much thanks to everyone who has helped out throughout the SOS experience. |
