//Courtesy of www.threeohsix.com\\ "Resistance is a young four-piece punk band from Winnipeg whom made their Saskatoon debut this summer at a show you most likely did not attend. Phooey on you. Resistance would have reminded you of all the good reasons why you started going to punk shows in the first place: catchy blasts of early East Bay style ballads; bloodstained, passionate, charmingly simplistic, delivered live with an intensity which would have left the remaining shards of your molars protruding from your swollen gums in much the same fashion as the Mohawk you sported shortly after Rancid ended up on the cover of Spin magazine. While their four song demo falls short of capturing the frenzy of their live set, it is well worth the two dollars I had to part ways with to own it. For the sake of comparison, I'd request that you imagine The Distillers, if Brody Armstrong didn't invest so much energy into trying to match the sandpaper rasp of her beloved husband, with a darker, more socially conscious mood about them. Here's hoping that I'll hear more from them in future, as do you. - Duff" |
