Artist History
Inspired by their mutual love of the intense sounds of Heavy Metal bands such as AC/DC, Alice in Chains, and Metallica, two friends, guitarist Cesar and bassist Johnny Matrixx, sought out to form a band in the late 1990s. Having an idea of what they wanted for the band, the two jam buddies posted an ad in a local newspaper to find their drummer. Answering their call was Ray Lyman, whose strong sense of rhythm and rich sound made a strong impression on Cesar and Johnny. The newly formed trio then set out to find their front man.
Using the Internet, Cesar, Johnny, and Ray, advertised on a local web site where they found their man. After auditioning many vocalists for over a week, Luis Sandro was asked to join the band as their lead singer. His strong vocal range and exposure to artists, such as Tom Waits and Miguel Bose, brought a softer style of Rock to the band.
The newly formed quartet had to then find a name for their band. Under Lyman’s suggestion, HeadShop was adopted, with the hope that the name would generate interest because of its play on words.
The chemistry between the men stimulates the creative flow of their music production. Additionally, the ethnic diversity of the band members, North American, South American, and Mediterranean, is the driving force behind the band. They credit their heritage as bringing their music to a new level, a bilingual Spanish and English synergy of high-energy music. The band’s first single, “Albert’s Cur,” written by Luis Sandro, blends singing and narration. Another single that creates a lot of enthusiasm from listeners is “La Chica Prohibida,” a piece that is sung in Spanish.
