    Artist History
In early 2000, three year 11 students decided to form a band. They could barely play their chosen instruments, but that didn't stop them. These students were Andrew Carruthers, Russell Fuller and Peter Malajczuk. Despite having no bass player or vocalist they began playing original songs and came up with such classics as 'Osmodiar' and 'Song One'. Later that year they got a bass player, Andrew Stuart, and recorded their first demo CD in the Russells bedroom. With 5 tracks and some pretty shocking musicianship, it was only a taste of whats to come. Their first gig came at 'Roley Rock Out'. Two weeks before it they decided they should probably have a singer. They then found Ryan who sung for them with emotion and insanity. With Ryans personality and some poor choices in song covers, Dissension managed to offend many and chase away everyone in the vicinity. Except for a handful of kids who moshed (our first and only mosh pit) and enjoyed the show. The end of 2000 came and Dissension were asked to play at thier school. Andrew's guitar was inaudable as was the singing of our new vocalist, Scott Noon. Add to that some talented and popular musicians to seriously upstage them and you have one terrible gig. But the lads took it all in their stride. This gig also marked the end of the Stuart legacy. Andrew quit as well as Scott, and the boys were back to instrumentals. They continued to play at certain places; a freinds party here, an elderly peoples lunch in the park there. Soon they had alot of original songs up their sleeve, and the urge to record was unbearable. So they upgraded from Russells room and moved to their friends lounge room. They recorded 13 tracks and axed 2 of them. Still slightly dodgy, but an improvement none the less. With crowd favourites like 'Space Journey' and 'Cellophane', it was a sure fire winner. Andrew Carruthers lended vocals to this recording, and although after listening to it youll wonder why, he still sings for the band. In 2001, Dissension played some more horrible gigs. Just mention the words 'Dissension' and 'Skate Fest 2001' and your sure to make anyone who lives in Roleystone cringe. They also went all the way to Northam and Toodyay to perform at some rigged band competitions. Never again. In 2002 Sean Reynolds joined the band. A terrificly skilled guitarist, the guys naturally made him play bass. A turning point for the band was in 2002 at a party in Gosnells where they played to some 21 year olds. They were applauded (even cheered sometimes) and received praise for their efforts. They also managed to get a regular gig at the Bayswater Football Club. The first two times went well, some of the bands best performances. But the third time they didn't start till almost midnight, played to an empty room and played guitars that were chronically out of tune. This and the fact they weren't being paid meant they quit after this third show. This brings us pretty much to the present day. Dissension have just finished recording a new 7 track EP (in a studio this time) and it actually sounds pretty damn good. Theres your 3 minute pop/punk songs ('Starla', 'Space Journey'), emotional rock ballads ('Like It Is', 'Fold', 'No Mystery'), psychosis inducing metal anthems ('Fantasy') and your solo acoustic numbers ('Insomniac Girl'). So go and buy it now OK!
