Artist History
Running Scared's history begins in the late summer of 2001, when the band that Rajiff and Patrick were in crumbled apart. They thought all was lost until a local friend recommended Gus, a local aspiring musician, be their drummer. They met Gus and played with him. The combination of Patrick and Gus clicked perfectly. The band started writing new material and eventually gained a second guitar player. After a series of conflicts with the current bassist, the band then came upon another native, and music enthusiast, Dameon.
With new energy and talent, the band continued to write more material and play locally. At the end of the summer of 2002, more conflicts erupted with the second guitar player and Running Scared became a four piece again, with Dameon on bass, Gus drumming, Patrick playing guitar, and Rajiff on vocals. It was during this critical time that the band finally began to define its sound. Previously, the band had written songs heavily influenced by pop-punk. Now the band's sound naturally evolved as well as matured into a more intricate, almost "emo" style. Running Scared began to finally create music that they feel is unique, by combining a vast array of influences that include, punk, emo, indie, hardcore, classic rock, and even jazz. With this broad combination of musical interests, the band hopes to create a sound that cuts through the monotony of straight punk, and be easily identifiable from the countless pop-punk bands.
The band's sound is not easily describable. Lyrically, Running Scared takes an almost nostalgic look at their lives, and how friends, and relationships alike come and go. The overall sound of the band is very full, energetic, and emotional with Gus’ booming Bonhamesque drumming combined with elements reminiscent of the hay day of jazz. Dameon’s articulate bass lines are nothing but complementary to Patrick’s raw, but smooth guitar style. Vocally, Running Scared utilizes Rajiff’s large vocal range with very emotional, complex harmonies and layered independent vocal lines to complete a sound they feel is their own.
The band hopes through playing live, endless promotion, and most importantly, hard work, to leave the peaceful hills of North Western Pennsylvania and spread their music, stories, passion, and youthful energy to fans everywhere.
