    Artist History
Cattletrap has existed since the Westward Expansion. This was a time when our forefathers were searching for farmland so they could raise cattle and then kill them. Because of limited technology, the only available instruments were the good ol' acoustic guitar and an old washboard from grandma. Most of the songs were little dittys about the hardships of poor cattle farmers. During the uprise of the beef industry, there was a drastic increase of beef being consumed by people like me and you, Cattletrap was able to purchase new instruments and develop a new sound. It's been a long known fact (back at the ranch) that well before their time, two men known as Simon P. Coltrane and Montigeau Snotgrass were able to manipulate the first electric guitars into making a sound that could only be described if heard by your own ears. Soon after this sound echoed throughout the ranch....herds of cattle stormed into their trap, making them the ultimate rock guitar heroes of their time. Two neigboring ranchers (Nate Potate and FastFinger Dayak) witnessed this extraordinary feat and had to be let in to the secret circle of Cattletrap. By only passing this sacred skill on to immediate family, Cattletrap lives on! So if you ever hear the cattle call scream out of that Marshall stack, get ready.... the stampede is on the way, and when the dust clears, Cattletrap will finish their set with a tasty barbecue for all!

    Press Reviews
MUSIC PREVIEW Cattletrap Lovin’ An Elevator writer: JUSTIN HOPPER iding in the crevices of Pittsburgh’s rock scene -- puking in Don Caballero’s backyard, as it were -- is a network of bands honing their songwriting skills, collecting for Pabst 30-packs, and constantly woodshedding in their search for the perfect riff. With Elevator Music For Headbangers, the self-released debut from Cattletrap, that network of too-punk-for-indie, too-indie-for-punk bands detonates one of its rare aboveground test explosions -- loudly, offensively and just about perfectly. Cattletrap’s music isn’t itself offensive: A tug-of-war between Slint and Fugazi guitars, with an obvious (and admitted) affection for indie royalty such as Mike Watt and the Butthole Surfers that makes for dynamic and often discordant rock. Cattletrap drops twisted and manipulated vocals in almost randomly -- everyone sings, but not all that often. What’s beautifully ambiguous, odd (and slightly un-PC) about the band resides in the nonmusical aspects of Elevator Music: the song titles (“Mustache Faggot,” “Fill Collins”), the cover art (a photo of an 80-something woman playing a drum kit), the fake-vomit photo inside. And this is also what’s wonderful about Pittsburgh’s low-profile rock scene, able to effortlessly ignore (and often presage) trends. Here, bands such as Cattletrap -- bands that rock harder and more contortedly than 80 percent of indie (and 100 percent of mainstream) “rock” bands -- are often willing to spend a few years prepping themselves in basements and the occasional 31st Street Pub gig before unleashing a fully developed sound on the public. In a town where economic and nationally publicized success is rare at best, musical heroes come in odd shapes and sizes -- such as Creta Bourzia’s Jason Jouver, who produced Elevator Music (at the vital +/- Studios) and provided an essential influence on the band. Now, in Cattletrap, we have another link in the chain of Pittsburgh’s irreverent rock tradition.
