Artist History
Composer, songwriter, vocalist, and multi instrumentalist Gretchen McMahon was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. As a military brat, she traveled the world. She received her BFA in Drama & Theater from the U. of Georgia, in Athens, Georgia. During that time, she composed and performed music for theatrical productions. Upon graduating she relocated to the Austin, Texas area where she continued acting and providing music for stage, film and television. In addition, she performed as lead guitarist and vocalist in a variety of bands ranging from fusion jazz to heavy metal. For the best three years she has been a part of Vortex Theater’s production, Dark Goddess, where she has portrayed the roles of Baba Yaga, Cerridwen, and the Morrigu as well as co-composing the music and playing up to 7 instruments in the orchestra. Gretchen plays acoustic & electric guitar, Celtic Lap Harp, tin whistle, mandolin, bass, keyboards and percussion.
Gretchen is a member of the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and a BMI recording artist. Brigit’s Kiss allows her to embrace all of her many musical styles while employing the talents of a revolving roster of players.
