Artist description
at no point during their 9-song, self-titled opus did The Amazing Verticalville really “wow” me. Being that they are a Moog-guitar-drums instrumental rock trio, that’s really unfortunate. Bands – especially those that attempt to communicate sans lyrics – really need one or two of those per album. There’s no one way that this can happen. Perhaps a fleeting convergence of the drums and guitar that hits just so, or that breathless silence right before a song erupts in furious distortion. On this release, however, I was greeted with more or less the same tedious-energetic formula in each track. One begins with a staccato drum/guitar line and maybe some kind of disturbing raving man sound clip, to which one might add some warbling basso Moog at some point, and there it is. I will give the muddy production at least partial credit for my lack of interest in this album, but let’s put blame where blame is due: the songs. There are no songs. - Michael A Cavagnaro |
