Press Reviews
"Innerstate? Who the f*#k are they?" Well, now is the time to find out. Armed with a newly released self-titled CD, a video that is getting play on Much Music, and a gig at the upcoming Canadian Music Week in Toronto, the four-piece sub-metal band is set to take on just about anything.
"Probably from the first time we jammed (it was) just free form," said Innerstate singer and bassist Lucy Di Santo. "Every other time we jam...it just seems to become our sound, we like that."
Working with producer DARIUS (Edwin, Big Sugar), the band recorded a 7 song CD, and is getting recognition for the music they have been making since the late 90's. Di Santo, guitarists Steve Fall and Rob Clarkson, and drummer Mick Srivastava, who are from Toronto, have been touring the new CD and found themselves in Windsor at the Coach and Horses.
Their stage presence was almost spellbinding as the crowd rocked to their every chord. With the foxy Di Santo at the helm, her soft and enchanting voice went hand in hand with the heavy guitar riffs and fierce drumbeats, creating a unique sound seldom heard in music these days. With a really heavy, yet somehow elegant sound, Innerstate showed the crowd why Much Music picked up their single "After all" for rotation.
The band rocked the crowd with a heavy underground Nirvana cover that left no one disappointed. Sounding as polished and perfect as the CD version, Innerstate proved their worth by keeping a consistent level of quality to their performance.
Many independent acts come and go in this business, and Innerstate is working hard to stick around. Innerstate has dates scheduled at the chilling "Love Sexy" nightclub/ lounge in New Jersey, as well as scheduled dates in New York to follow. With success on their mind, Innerstate has the right tools/attitude to achieve the highest level of mastery of their goal.
According to the Canadian Music Week website http:// www.cmw.net, Innerstate is listed as one of the bands set to perform, but there is no mention of the schedule on the band website http:/ /www.innerstate.ca. Watch the website for more information about this and other upcoming shows.
