Artist description I am a vocalist, performing mostly around NY-NJ-PA area. My favorites on the stage are Semi-classical songs, Bengali Ragprodhan songs, Bengali and Hindi modern songs. Depending on the occassion I use various instruments for accompanyment including Tanpura, Tabla, Harmonium as well as Keyboards. My mother, Pramila, a vocalist and my father. Prasanta, a Sitarist, are my mentors. I have also received formal trainings from many stalwarts of Rabindra Sangeet and Classical music at Santiniketan, West Bengal, India. Artist History I have performed on many occassions in Santiniketan - where I grew up, in Calcutta - where I worked before coming to the US and now in US. I occassionally perform with a famous band named Resonance (http://resonantmusic.tripod.com) I believe training in Classical music is essential for any musician to feel the freedom of creativity. Since Indian Classical music is about 90% improvisation - the creativity of a musician is truely the only limit. The modern songs that you find here are all very well known to the Bengalees.
