Artist History
In 1977, Mike McHugh started performing spoken word poetry while going to school in Austin, Texas later returning to New York in 1978. By 1981, Mike started writing and performing his own songs... accapella at Gerde's Folk City! Two years later Mike did his first gig with a full band at The Speak Easy in the West Village. Mike continued to perform in many underground music showcases throughout the city, sometimes booking the bands himself. The 80's came and went and Mike found himself looking for a new adventure for the 90's. Mike created a spoken word/rock band called Sonic Art. In 2001, after a long run with Sonic Art... Sonic Rapture was born and received the high honor of playing at CMJ Music Festival (2001) in NYC. Mike is now the booker of the C Note in NYC and still performs in the heart of the Village with his current project.! |
