Artist description
As young music student, he simply can't sit still and watch music become the dull, uninspired, manufactured mess it has become. Inspired by such individual, pioneering arists as Frank Zappa and Steve Vai, as well as prog-metal leaders Dream Thater, Karim continues to write and perform music containing the same spirit.
Of course, the spirit may be similar to the intelligent, exotic guitar of Steve Vai as well as the awe-inspiring and complex progressive metal of Dream Theater, the style is one that retains its roots in those artists' sound, yet moves both forwards and backward, combining the insanity of Frank Zappa, the subtle realities embedded in the complexities of modern classical music, as well as the harmonic depth and improvisatory spirit of jazz.
Karim exclusively uses Ibanez Guitars (www.ibanez.com), Line6 Amplification and Signal Processors (www.line6.com), Korg keyboards (www.korg.com), BOSS Digital Recorders (www.bossus.com), and Digidesign Software (www.digidesign). |

Artist History
Karim was introduced to music at the age of 4, when he began violin lessons. However, he, even at that young age, longed for an electric guitar. After taking piano lessons between the ages of 10 and 12, he finally got his electric guitar--at age 15. After a phase of exploring the reckless abandon of 80's thrash metal bands, he "grew up." Expanding his tastes to include the instrumental guitar wizardry of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, the progressive metal onslaught of Dream Theater, the progressive metal fusion of Tony Macalpine and Planet X, modern classical (Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Varese), and jazz & fusion (Allan Holdsworth, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra). |
