Artist History
Benjamin Bruce Smith started his musical journey in the small southern town of Cochran, Georgia. Located a mere forty miles from Macon, GA, the mecca of Southern Rock and early soul music.
Benjamin Bruce was classically trained in vocals and piano before picking up the guitar at age twelve and realizing a creative output for songwriting and vocal performance with a distinctive southern/blues/alt.country flavor. Starting out in the acoustic duo Southern Way, he played the college bar scene and outdoor festivals for a couple of years before moving to Texas in 1980, where he earnestly started cutting his songwriting teeth around Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.
After playing the TX bar scene for over six years he headed back to GA with a couple of guitars and a small catalog of well crafted tunes. Recording and gigging with old friends he continued to write and perform until the road led to Atlanta, playing small pubs and acoustic venues on Peachtree Street for several years.
Currently based out of Vancouver, Washington near Portland, Oregon, Benjamin Bruce continues to write, perform, and record with an ever evolving cast of creative Northwest musicians. "My love of songwriting and stripped down, honest performance inspires me to follow in the tradition of my heroes and great singer/songwriters such as John Hiatt, Gram Parsons, and Martin Sexton." |
