Press Reviews
Review from The Glass Eye Magazine Lollipop Lust Kill Motel Murder Madness 4.0 Eyes (out of 4)"I feel like such a pushover…I mean, I haven't done any articles for The Eye in the past few months, and now that I've finally made my triumphant return, I'm giving out "4 eye" reviews left and right - Valve, Evolotto, All Hail Me, and now…Lollipop Lust Kill. But they all deserve it! And if I had to rate bands on merit of worth, LLK is probably the highest review of the batch. One listen to (or download of) this MP3 disc will prove why.LLK has been kicking around Toledo for a few years now, steadily building up an increasingly strong fanbase the whole time. Along with vigorous advertising techniques and continuous merchandise for public consumption, the band has been an "overnight" success on MP3.com with (brace yourself) over 50,000 hits to date. How do they do it? They saved their money, recorded their songs in a good studio, and stuck to their niche: an updated, upbeat, balls-to-walls hybrid of old-school Marilyn Manson and old-school Rob Zombie. Do you doubt me? If so, listen to the drum beat of "Bury You" and try to tell me that it's not straight out of "The Beautiful People". I dare you.It doesn't matter how heavily LLK wears their influences on their sleeve, however, because they perform this type of music so damn well: it's heavy, it's catchy, and it makes you want to bury an axe in your worst enemy's forehead. Furthermore, this disc has all the qualities of an instant classic: the riffs are huge, the drums are booming, the vocals are relentless, the disc comes equipped with a full multi-media section (photos, band biography, etc.), and every song on the disc rocks with 110% intensity.Hell, on more than one occasion, I've left the house hoarsely chanting, "Will you be my Valentine?" (from "Murder House of Love") "I'm coming at you with a kitchen knife," (from the aforementioned "Bury You"), and DIE MOTHERFUCKER DIE!" (from Killgreedy", a personal favorite). Be forewarned, these songs will stick with you hours after hearing them. Other standout tracks include "Ted," (yes, that Ted) "It's Cold Inside," and the instant classic "Jesus Chrysler," which could easily be a hit on any hard rock radio station in the country. What else can I say? Everyone in Toledo needs to get their asses to MP3.com to see the caliber bands Toledo has to offer, and anyone who loves modern heavy metal should download a copy of this disc in order to see what all the hype is about.Better yet, go buy the disc from them in concert: they play in Toledo on a semi-regular basis, and I'm sure any upcoming show dates are listed at ToledoEntertainment.com. However you do it, get a copy of Lollipop Lust Kill's debut CD, Motel Murder Madness, as soon as possible. Not only is it an instant classic, but it's also a sign of things to come…After all, why reinvent the wheel if you can simply redesign it a little bit with equal (if not better) results? Come to think of it, isn't that exactly what rock n' roll is supposed to be about?" Aaron WeisbrodGlass Eye Magazine Bands converge for music festivalexcerpt from Toledo Blade article - 02 June, 2000Get ready for a massive blast of rock and roll, Toledo-style, when 36 local bands perform on three stages tomorrow at the Main Event. The Second Annual Toledo Music Festival will include some hip-hop, but the emphasis is on rock, from punk to metal to space rock, according to Jonathan Anderson, special events coordinator for Inner City Enterprises, which organized the festival."Last year we did it and raised a lot of awareness of the Toledo music scene," Anderson said. "We had 1,500 people attend last year, and this year it should be well over 2,000."Among the headliners will be Lollipop Lust Kill, a hard-hitting six-piece rock band that recently signed a contract with Crazed Management, Inc., a high-profile firm in Philadelphia that helped launch the careers of Metallica, Anthrax, and Bif Naked."We're all horror-movie freaks," said guitarist Greg Dillabaugh, aka "Dead Greg." "Our music has a horror-movie theme but we have a disclaimer at the bottom of our band bio that basically says, 'Hey, we're not real murderers. We like horror movies and don't take this seriously. So don't go out and murder someone and blame it on us.' We understand our responsibility."Lollipop Lust Kill won a local radio station's battle of the bands contest two years ago and its latest single, "Murder House of Love," has topped the chart in the metal genre at www.mp3.com, the Web site where computer users can download tunes."The stats are incredible," Dillabaugh said. "Our songs have gotten 50,000 hits at mp3.com and 4,000 a month at our own Web site (www.lollipoplustkill.com). We're selling albums in Sweden, Germany, everywhere."The six musicians, who have been performing together about six years, all use stage names, and in addition to Dead Greg include Evvy Pedder on vocals, Dr. Distorto on guitar, D. Human on bass, R. Cynic on drums, and Killer K on keyboards."Four of us went to Bedford High School, one went to Erie Mason, and the other went to Woodward," said Dillabaugh, who played jazz guitar in high school. He thinks that the Toledo music scene is ready for national attention."There are a lot of good bands, a lot of talent," Dillabaugh said. "It's just going to take one band to pop out - and hopefully it'll be us - and then everybody will notice Toledo." End----- More press... Hurtfilled Noise Radio on LLK’s Knee Deep in the Dead:"This is the future of metal. This is my favorite song and artist on all of MP3.com. With a vocalist like Evvy Pedder, you can't go wrong. The whole band just plain kicks ass. Definitely look for this band to get bigger in the future…from Toledo, Ohio. 103.6 The Pit on LLK's Murder House of Love:"A great Metal song with a creepy style..." Killswitch Radio on LLK's Knee Deep in the Dead:"Listen to this song, masturbate in a pile of your own feces, buy a gun and go on a killing rampage. Hey, why not? Chicks dig it." We Rise Productions on LLK's Knee Deep in the Dead:"(Toledo, Ohio) This band will leave you 'Knee Deep in the Dead' with their range of style and professional sound. It doesn't get much heavier." Zodiac 11's Metal Zone on LLK's Murder House of Love:"This one is a favorite song of mine. Lots of change ups in this tune. Pretty damn heavy too!" From DeadRose; Metal for the whole family:"Dammit, why is this band so cool? This is their last song they have on mp3.com, but if they make more, they will be here as soon as I find 'em. Comin' atcha with the kitchen knife! Damn...that's the best part..." |
