Artist description
“Subtly twisted perfect pop songs...” is how the Village Voice describes the music of Kill Henry Sugar. The New York City trio originally met as musicians on singer Joan Osborne’s unwieldy “Relish” tour where they bonded quickly thanks to their congenial nature and unusually satisfactory hygiene. It was during this whirlwind expedition, somewhere between the golden hills of Madrid and the beige strip malls of Rochester, that they discovered a shared penchant for darker, edgier musical material. Upon their return, driven by this unexpected creative coalescence (as well as excruciating boredom), they found themselves irresistibly linked, and the robust, yet tender vision of Kill Henry Sugar was born. The band’s city roots provide a rich emotional and sonic landscape from which to draw. Their songs are infused with Manhattan’s kinetic balance of desire and entropy, engaging listeners as well as developing their phonics skills (all in the comfort of their own homes). Each band member has also resourcefully taken it upon himself to cultivate a whimsical habit for marketing purposes. The boys have performed and recorded with a wide range of unreasonably famous artists, including the charming Natalie Merchant, the angular Andy Partridge, the audacious Mojo Nixon, the transcendent Tiny Tim and even the handsome David Sanborn. With their debut eponymous CD, Kill Henry Sugar brings its formidable musical (and culinary) aesthetic to the people. Yes, you. You’re the people. Alright, not you. But you, on the left. Yes. |
