Artist description
ISHI performs an eclectic repertoire of original jazz-nuanced pop/rock songs. Frontwoman Lea Pritchard has been compared stylistically to the likes of influences as diverse as Natalie Merchant, Janis Joplin and Edie Brickell, while the adept riffs of guitarist Chris Cooper have drawn comparisons to Clapton, Zappa and Eric Johnson. Keyboardist Farrar Hudkins has put a pop spin on his classical piano and jazz training to contribute delectable melodies and rhythms to the songwriting, while Matt Carter's thirteen years' experience has equipped him to provide a rock-solid foundation in the form of a shimmering backdrop of drums. |

Press Reviews
"...the band is composed of superb musicians...Ishi is graced with an excellent keyboardist with the discipline of having a classical and jazz background...thus giving them a rich textural sound, with zappa-like licks from the guitar, and jazzy paradiddles from the drum section, to create entire moods...which are then brought to perfection by Lea Pritchard's ethereal vocal and elegantly reposed physical presence..." - CharlotteInternet.com, August '99 |
