In every family there is someone with a dream.
Many people don’t have the help needed to achieve
those dreams and they become shattered. Lolitha
Oliver have a dream. Sometimes dreams are not
easy to accomplish. I have been singing since I
was a little girl in the church choir. I formally
attended New Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church
where the Rev. L. J. Scott was my pastor. Due to
his retirement, I am a recent member of Logos
Christian Center where the Rev. Olivia Hines is
my pastor.
I love doing outreaches in the community.
In my singing ministry, I was a participant in
The 8th Annual New Artist Record Manufacturers
Showcase Concert 2001 given by Rev. Robert Woods
as well as musicals. I have opened for several
block parties giving the young people a word about
God. I counsel young and old about the goodness
of Gods grace during their storms. I have song at
many churches and shelters for the elderly in and
out of Texas. My soul purpose for singing is to
reach the hearts of people with Gods word. Not
to get the glory myself, for I know that God is
the reason we all are here and blessed. When you
know that, things fall into place. My mother
would always say, “God gave you a talent use it!”
By those encouraging words I did use the gift and
became a well respected young woman of God.
I have experienced the ups and downs positives
and negatives you get in gospel groups. I know
now that God had to mold me for five (5) years
to get me at the level I am now. I am Glad I had
that test and pasted. Gods anointing power is
awesome. Before singing gospel I wasn’t sure what
dream I wanted to take on first. I thought man
it is so hard to sing gospel. I would enter into
The People’s Workshop here in Houston to try for
The Sammy Davis Jr. Award given by his wonderful
wife. It was an honor for me to get nominated
for two (2) years and get a certificate of
recognition. Being a young lady nominated for an
award meeting the Mighty Clouds of Joy was great.
I tried acting as well. I was in the movie
Jason’s Lyric as an extra. No matter what I did
I always put God first. Things would always
workout great. That was another test. I got to
experience how one minute you can mingle with the
crowd and the next they can be your biggest enemy. It was nothing you done. God just chose me out of a crowd of extras to walk infront of the camera. I thought I was being thrown out. I had no idea because I wasn’t showing skin I would be picked. So I do know the Lord works in mysterious ways.
I began writing music soon after that experience.
The only songs God gave me were Gospel. No matter
how hard I tried to write a love song Gospel came
in my mind. I would tell my mother I don’t know
what to do. Should I sing Gospel or R&B. She
would always say “God is showing you what you
need to do Lolitha”. Satan had put doubt in my
mind through other people saying you sound good
singing R&B. Gospel isn’t going any where I was
told by powerful people. We have to be careful
what we tell young people. Gospel is good and I
wanted to sing. One night a tragic accident
happened at my apartment. A car came through my
apartment off the feeder at 102 miles per hour
while I was sleeping God watched over me. I was
in such a shock I couldn’t speak. I had lost my
voice for a split second. People would ask if I
was ok? I couldn’t say anything just crying.
My voice came back when I calm down and I knew
then I am singing Gospel no matter how negative
people are to me. God spared my life.
We never know how many times in a day our life is
spared by God’s protection. Do I have “Faith”?
This is a question everyone needs to ask
themselves as deciples for Christ. May it Bless
others like it has truly Blessed me. God gave it
to me and I want to share it with you.
Thank you for listening. You will like what you
hear. God Bless you and keep you is my prayer.
This is the life of Lolitha Oliver singer,
song writer, wife, mother and proud woman of God.
