    Artist History
Slow Grind has always been a band who, since conception in 1998, has understood the unspoken face of life and used this knowledge to focus their own anger on the expression of brutality in its purest form. Back in 1998 when vocalist/ guitarist John Garcia teamed up with long time friend, J.R. Salazar, to start the band, the primary objective was to create music that made you feel the concepts described within the lyrics of each song. The two guitarists began to build foundation when they started practicing with friends, David Arriola and James Hall (bass and drums respectively). Within a few months, the entity of Slow Grind was given a face when the group released its first demo, Morbid Visions of Reality. The raw and morose nature of the songs contained within were a testament to the limits anger can reach. Live shows, from the start, were known to be aggressive and uncompromising. This direction was continued and amplified when Joe Ybarra became the replacement bass guitarist for the band in 1999. After several successful shows, the band fell into a stasis. New material ceased, leaving the energy of Slow Grind in restraints. After several months, John was introduced to his wife's brother , Jaime Cisneros. A lead guitarist by nature, Jaime was given the task of taking over John's role as lead guitarist while John took command of the now vacant slot behind the drums (John had already had experience as a drummer under the group, V.S.I.). Once Jaime and John became comfortable with their new roles, vocalist Chris "Cooch" Cook assumed the role as singer for the band for a short while. Even after Cooch's departure from the band, new material was being written quickly and the energy of Slow Grind continued to build momentum. Founders John and J.R. both knew that the band needed a frontman who could best project the dark and dismal energy emitting from the music. The first choice was Catastrophe frontman, Memo Leal, who was known for his chaotic and combustible stage presence. With new bassist, Mike Gomez, added to the line-up, the band resumed its aggressive writing, only now more relentless than ever. Live shows showcased the anger-fueled music with an assault felt throughout the crowds. The band began recording its second demo during the end of 2000 into the beginning of 2001. It was during this time that Jaime decided that he wanted to go into the military and would thus be leaving the band. Not wanting to leave the band weakened, Jaime stayed onboard until a replacement was found in Leo Vela. Also a lead guitarist by nature, Leo was now the third person assuming the role of lead guitar and helped in the completion of the ten song, self-titled demo. With the brutal entity of Slow Grind now more potent than ever, the band began its vicious onslaught of unadulterated anger and perversion. New material has taken an intensity more vile and aggressive than ever before; and, new soundscapes are emerging constantly allowing glimpses into new dark and chaotic concepts. Slow Grind is now a very tightly knit, four-piece unit with one goal in mind: to dominate in its goal to express brutality in its purest form. Even through many changes in members, Slow Grind has continued to persist in its goal and will continue to do so. Hate, anger, and brutality can only become unstoppable when allowed to build over time. It is a lengthy process, but the only true way to complete the rise to ascendance. This is the Slow Grind to dominance...
