Artist History
BIO:
Jim began his musical training on the drumset at the age of 11. After pursuing Jazz and Fusion music his world was turned upside down when he delved into Indian Classical Music and the art of Tabla. Since 1990 Jim has been consumed by this art form. He has traveled to India several times to learn Tabla from Ustad Allah Rakka and Vibhav Nageshkar. He has studied stateside from Sukvinder Singh Namdhari, Samir Chatterji, Naren Desai, Yogesh Samsi and a handful of other notable players. Jim holds in the highest regard his first teacher Naren Desai and the illustrious Kathak dancer Sunayana Hazarilal. Jim has been recorded on albums by composer Kanniks Kannikeswaran for two all India releases, the group Monk ( as heard on the Echoes radio show), and the group he co-founded Mohenjo Daro ( Tandem Records ) . He has performed with the Chapman stick artist Greg Howard. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on several occassions, the group Monk, at The Montreal Jazz-Festival with Mohenjo Daro, he has also performed with Budhadeav das Gupta, Anupama Sharma, and many other Indian classicists who travel through Cincinnati.
