Artist History
Abiku formed in spring 2002 as a four piece: beats/synths, guitar, voice, and theremin. We put out a four song demo in late spring, and toured the midwest as a two piece that summer. We moved into Space soon after. Space was an abandoned house that our friend Melissa had bought, which, when we moved in, had no electricity, no plumbing, minimal roofage. With a good deal of hard work, we were able to turn it into a barely lit, cold as crap, no-hot-water, leaky residence and show space, the likes of which some of my squatter friends were afraid of. but, it was home, and Josh, Melissa, the cat, and I grew very close through the megacold and ultrasnowy winter. During that time, Abiku recorded Novelty, a reference to the way we are often dismissed and to Joy Division, and played numerous shows in the area, including many at the Wayne Train Staion. In December and January, our very good friend Chris gave up the comforts of his dorm room to join us in Space and for a Midwest tour. Soon after, we released a split live CD with Mummy Curse and toured to support it. We kept playing out and booking shows at Space, and battling our enemies in Philadelphia. Come spring, we toured again, up North this time with our very good friends Myles of Destruction, Irradiated Beef, Ninja Death Squad, and Crush Bastard System. We recorded for our split 7 with Myles of Destruction soon after. In the summer, we played with Prick of Nothing Records fame and Jarboe from the Swans, as well as touring the Midwest and the South with our friend James of Fire Down Below on vocals. For that tou, we put out a 7 song CDR release entitled Suffer. In early fall we moved to Baltimore so I could go back to school.

Additional Info
So, we just moved to Baltimore. Jane decided to return to school, she's going to Maryland Institute College of Art. Both Josh and Jane feel a bit out of sorts, in a new town with the knowledge that school can kill bands, but both keep working on booking, recording, writing, etc, so no end for Abiku is in sight. |
