Artist History
Since their 1980 formation, Anal Guardian has played
True Real Metal at its truest and realest. Their
brand of Metal is in fact so true and so real that
they deemed it unfit to be released to the shallow
ears of the general rock audience. That is until now.
For the first time ever, they are giving their music
to a source that allows all listeners, not just the
truest and realest, to enjoy it. Now you oh
unfortunate MP3.com subscriber who has probably been
raised on the False Metal of Dark Toilet and Manowar –
can see what all the fuss is about.
As of 1981, some bands were playing True Metal, and
some bands were playing Real Metal. Anal Guardian
turned the world on its head by playing Metal that was
both True and Real with their debut album, Barbarian.
Of course, only the truest and the realest of Metal
fans could appreciate it, so it was largely ignored.
The same could be said about its follow-up, 1983’s Hot
Tonite. An album of it's candor did not deserve to be
ignored, but the band members knew it was too True and
Real to be appreciated by the masses and did little
regarding its distribution. 1984 saw the band take a
very drastic step by recording The Steel Crusade. We
wanted to make an album called The Steel Crusade,
says bassist Andante. So we made it. In 1986, the
band wanted to make the Legend album. Accordingly, to
the delight of their fan base, they made the album.
After Louder Than Manowar, a stunning live album, a
full three years passed before the band shocked the
world once again by recording The Battle of
Prometheus, a thoughtful and dramatic concept album
that many fans consider to be Anal Guardian's truest
and realest moment. Three more years would pass before
the back-to-basics bludgeon of 1992's Accelerator.
Many Anal Guardian fans were disappointed, as they
felt the album rarely captured the band's earlier
glory. The legions of fools who thought that Anal
Guardian would simply wither away in the tradition of
other Metal dinosaurs were proved wrong, as 1995's The
Mighty was considered to be their best album since
Prometheus. Nevertheless, more and more fans grew
impatient during the band's three year lapses between
albums. "Sometimes it takes us three years to record
an album," says guitarist Lazimondias. When that
happens, the album usually doesn't come out for three
years.
Anal Guardian consolidated their hold on the Metal
world in 1997 with The Dark Crystal, a lavish concept
album based on the movie of the same name. It
represented a marriage between both old and new Anal
Guardian, and, even if it isn't their truest and
realest, it's certainly their truest.
In 2001, Anal Guardian set the world on fire once
again with the Leather Gods album. Described by
Bercilac as being the new millenium's equivalent of
Judas Priest's Turbo, the album is almost too True and
too Real for the equipment which it was recorded on.
Can you handle it's trueness and realness?
