Artist description
Glenn Goodspeed plays blues, rock and whatever else crosses his mind. As a youth, he concentrated on the guitar, but couldn't help learning how to sing and play bass, drums and keyboards as well. In those days, you never knew whether he would start in on a Blind Faith tune (he knew the whole album), a Bach "Bouree," or a very loud and raspy rendition of Rory Gallagher's "Used to Be."
These days, he is still unpredictable, but more refined. He has honed his skill on the bass and vocals playing with local bands while keeping up his chops on the guitar by practicing at home. His drumming is elegantly understated and to the point. His guitar work reminds the listener of sources as varied as Eric Clapton, Charlie Christian and B.B. King. His strong attack and improvisation on the bass are reminiscent of Cream bassist Jack Bruce. His vocal work is as eclectic as his instrumental abilities, and he's liable to go from a Southern blues holler on one tune to a baritone croon on the next.

Artist History
Goodspeed grew up singing in church choirs and listening to underground rock albums. At the age of fourteen, he decided to become a rock star and began practicing the guitar every day. He moved to Texas at sixteen and played with rock bands in his high school and college days. He was heavily influenced by Texas players like John Nitzinger, Billy Gibbons and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Because of his interest in other facets of life such as sports cars and girls, he postponed rock star status indefinitely.
For a few years, Goodspeed virtually quit playing while he absorbed other forms of music, including jazz, blues and reggae. He began playing again when lured into church work by a desperate choir director who needed a guitar player. Chuch music soon became tiresome, and Goodspeed wanted to get serious about improving his skill on the electric bass.
To learn the bass properly and to continue work on his singing, he began playing with blues and rock bands in the Fort Worth, Texas, area where he lives. In time, the advent of the Internet and MP3.com inspired him to begin recording some of his original music, including some tunes from his early days as well as some written more recently.
His current band, the Soul Binders, plays one or two weekends a month at small venues in and around Fort Worth. See them if you get the chance!

Press Reviews
"Glenn Goodspeed. You'd think he made the name up himself." - EastWest Blues.
"Normally an artist invites friends and bandmates to play on a solo record and gets studio mercenaries to fill in the gaps. Goodspeed does it all himself." - Blues Picker.
"Goodspeed's recording techniques should give pause to those who use every trick in the book. The music is still the thing." - RQ Magazine.
"Something special." - Pop Review. |
