    Artist History
Butterknife is a pop band that rocks but doesn’t bring to mind others in their genre. Comparisons come and go but never repeat themselves. The band likes it this way and so do the fans. The first full length release, "Feel Good Movie," contains nine songs: 'Underhanded' has Great hooks,`Band' drives like three-piece pop should, ‘The Only Thing' is a dynamic and soaring look at estrangement. Successful college radio promotion has “Feel Good Movie” spinning at over 110 stations nationwide, charting at dozens. During it’s first week out, the album was in the top 20 most added to CMJ reporting stations. As they formed during late night sessions in 1996, Scott (Deflowers, Tube Top) and Wes worked out weird pop songs -- turning them into what you hear on the album. Pete, a recent Minneapolis export, (Whirligigs, Mood Swings, Taconite Haven) heard the band on local radio and jumped at the chance to join when he heard the spot was open. The band has never been better. Fishburne initiates the song-writing and according to The Rocket, has the structured pop song down pat: "Whether exhibiting the band's low-key, melodic versatility with the hookish `Underhanded' or offering his gift for lyrical depth on the eminently catchy `Yellow,' Fishburne and company are not only talented, but talented at something useful: they make pure pop songs." For the past 18 months, Butterknife have been playing Seattle clubs sharing bills with the likes of Harvey Danger, Tube Top, Super Deluxe, Carmine, Micro-Mini, Severna Park, Veer, New Sweet Breath, and Death Cab For Cutie. In March of `97, they played the KCMU Live Room a one-hour, live radio show. Their first single, a split 7" with Veer, was released February `97 and received impressive college radio air play and reviews. Take the time to give Butterknife a listen. The Rocket says, "Butterknife [is] a band our musical scene can surely use."
