Press Reviews
trampcough is a band that I don't believe I will ever get tired of seeing play live, and last night's show only re-affirms my feelings. trampcough played a fantastic show to somewhere around 150-200 people last night (they had a larger crowd when they played here last year, but that was on a Friday night as opposed to a Thursday night), and while their current set is not exactly unpredictable, it was delivered with a lot of energy and finesse.
In many ways, the band's ability to crank out these hits seems to be getting even better -- for example, songs like "Sir, In Your Mouth" and "Lovely Onions", which are around 5 years old, were delivered with the same raw energy as trampcough's newest tune, "trampsnaffle". Tom Kuch in particular seemed full of life last night -- not known for being particularly animated on-stage, I was somewhat surprised during his truly awe-inspiring solo (during "Nob") to see Tom bent over and squatting with his guitar between his knees, teeth gritted, slashing away at his guitar.
Perhaps some of this energy the band had can be attributed to the presence of Jon Yahel - who prowled around the stage and pounded away on bass and delivered a fantastic "monster bass" solo during "Follow Through" - this was followed-up by Eric Hunter's drum solo, which packed quite a punch of his own. Tom was in fine vocal form, belting out the high notes from (among other songs) "What Am I Eating?". From the opening guitar riff in "Is This...", to the final chords of "Get It Out", trampcough once again reminded me why I got hooked on them in the first place. |
