Artist description
E-Quad was formed in 2001 by bass-player / composer Eric van der Westen, who is especially known from jazz and improvised music. E-Quad is the new division of Eric’s workstation Quadrant, E-Quad is short for Electric Quadrant. New challenges and influences from modern dance-music have incited Eric to create a band with people coming from totally different disciplines who can feed him with new views and musical knowledge.
E-Quad has found an exciting balance working with samples and beats and acoustic instruments. The alternative dance music moves between World Groove, Drum ’n Bass, Trip Hop and Chemical. Inspiring acts are Underworld, Massive Attack, Lamb, Faithless and Herbie Hancock, but also producers like Adrian Sherwood and Amon Tobin. International top-musicians are asked to improvise on E-Quad’s music when recording as well as when performing. On the most recent demo e.g. Laetitia van Krieken (The Nits), Guido Nijs (Beef), Louis Mhlanga and Sello Montwedi (Hugh Masekela) can be heard.
