Artist description
Rob writes usually on acoustic guitar, but then sometimes converts them into rock songs, often completely re-writing everything that was in the original song so that all that is left the same is the verse/chorus structure. Bit rock - bit pop - bit goth in places. |

Artist History
It all started at the age of 7, when Kate Bush released Wuthering Heights. From that point until 8 years later, Rob had a fascination with Kate & her music, which was curiously common among adolescents at the time, and Rob changed from wanting to be an astronaut to being a musician, so he could meet Kate. Sad but undeniably true.
Rob then began writing lyrics at the age of about 14. Heavily influenced by Peter Gabriel and early Genesis, Rob then began a ten year period of writing surreal lyrics, saturated with metaphores, gradually becoming less and less metaphorical and more similefied. He graduated into writing songs by the age of 16 when he got his first guitar.
A distinctive style was showing, and he decided to continue. At the age of 17, Rob entered his first band at "Aix-en-provence", a young goth band. With an corps of 5 musicians with more character than musical ability he played his first gig within a matter of weeks, swiftly followed by coming runners-up in the Hastings "Battle of the Bands" competition.
Next stop was "Abbey Heights", a rock/goth band. This was a period of crafting rock songs, more than gigging experience. During this time, Rob also did a lot of solo work with the keyboard player's M1 keyboard, and developed 20 or songs in various styles over several seasons - probably not unlike Tori Amos in places, riff-wise.
Also during this time he formed a comedy musical duo with his friend Andrew Collins. TLO, or The Two Left Ovaries, was a roaring success, and must have sold at least half a dozen cassette albums. Each song was written and recorded within 10 minutes. Really! A great album. 90 minutes of class. Lots of swearing and rude words. No longer available, but clips may appear on Rob's website in the future.
Next up came some keyboard guest work with the popular underground goth band of the time, "Children on Stun", and Rob recorded for them in the studio for their first album.
With the next band going by the name of Soul Inside, Rob really started developing his songwriting skills in a partnership with buddy and former band member Kyle Whipp.
He left in 1996 to go solo, and now he's currently working on a solo album, and there have been some good reports and feedback on demos so far. So if you like these songs and want to hear more of Rob's work, there are a lot more songs available for download on his website: http://www.robgalbraith.co.uk |
