    Artist description
Many people say that big things come in small packages. That would be an under statement to the mutli-talented Johnnie Hodges, who was born in the heart of downtown Fort Greene in Brooklyn, New York. Here, Johnnie’s life was surrounded by alcoholism, violence, and drug abuse, regardless deep inside of him there was a gift yet to be discovered. Formally known as Jah-MC, Johnnie began his career as an MC at the age fourteen. Johnnie always found it necessary to proclaim, “ I’m an MC, not a rapper!” Even at the early age of fourteen Johnnie knew that in order to have an impact in the music industry, he had to separate himself from the mainstream. In 1992, Johnnie found a partner that complimented his originality who went by the name Pooh. Along with the group known as the Vibe Khameleons, Jah- MC and Pooh made several appearances throughout New York. The group formally known as Smoove Core made appearances at: The Uptown Comedy Club, The Nuyorican Poets Caf, and The Time Caf to name a few. In 1994, Smoove Core made their debut with Imago recording artist, Sha-Key on the track Vibe Khameleons on her debut album titled, A Headnaddas Journey to the Adidi Skizm. The desire to be great in the music industry kept Smoove Core together for a year after their success with Sha-Key. Unfortunately, the following year Pooh passed away before his 20th birthday putting an end to Smoove Core. In 1996, Johnnie joined the U.S. Air Force to change his atmosphere. No longer could the beats and baselines of Hip Hop drown out the reality he struggled to see. Johnnie fulfilled his dream to train to become a firefighter and then an electrician, but music was still his first love. In 1997, Johnnie made minor appearances in Texas to rekindle what was in his hometown as well as his heart. Although he had his battles adjusting to military life, little did he know God was preparing him for a plan far beyond what he could ever have imagined. In 1998, an assignment to an Airbase in Germany mirrored the same complications he faced at previous assignments. Regardless, Johnnie was on a mission to show his music to the world. Upon inviting a minister to one of his upcoming shows, Johnnie was invited to church. The Divine Plan of God made Johnnie the missing piece to the completion of the church’s new location in Ramstein, Germany .An electrician was needed to complete the lighting portion for the new location now known as, Agape Christian Faith Center. In September of that year, Johnnie gave his life to Jesus Christ. Immediately after several opportunities came to exploit the gift God gave Johnnie. Particularly with a well-known German artist, Xavier Naidoo who formed a group called the Sohne Mannheims. From 1999 through 2001, Johnnie struggled with the benefits of fame, finance, and popularity of the music industry in Germany. Finally, he concluded, “ What profit a man to gain the world, than to lose his soul. The Word of God is not to be compromised. Now more than ever my music will truly impact the lives of the listeners, young and old, from Asia to America and throughout the world, that they may know the importance of obtaining a relationship with Jesus Christ. Currently, Johnnie writes, produces, and arranges all his music, which is truly inspired by God. His style known as “poetic lyrical jazz” changes the traditional format many gospel artists today have set as the standard. This is real music; that is not only soothing to the soul, but also meat to the spirit.
