Artist History
Jjaati was formed in 1995 by founding members R. Steele (songwriter, lyrics, lead guitar) and J. Matuzak (rhythm guitar, lead guitar). Steele and Matuzak created Jjaati as a vehicle for hard, lyrically complex heavy metal rock that was almost completely missing from the music scene in the 1990's. The result of this collaboration was the album Dreamscape. Dreamscape featured controversial songs that challenged social mores and Church hypocrisy (prophetically seven years before massive scandal in the Catholic Church). Because of the album's strong and controversial themes, it became an underground hit without ever receiving mainstream radio play. Dreamscape appealed mainly to lovers of progressive rock and experimental jazz because of the incredible guitar work of R. Steele, who has been hailed as "the John McLaughlin of the heavy metal world". |

Press Reviews
Band Review from June 1997 Coldmetal Magazine (credits Jan Holst):
This is as pure as hard rock gets. Jjaati is from the American Midwest but the diabolical riffs seem to originate from an address much further south. Musically, Jaati is occasionally similar to guitar idol Ingwe Malmsteen, however, the lyrics have a maturity and a naturalness that can only come from Midwestern rock. But blues this ain't! |
