Artist description
Moksha, in Sanskrit, means liberation. It is a term that holds great importance in Eastern philosophy, for it is seen as a release from the burdens of karma and human egotism. Moksha, the band, are well aware of the significance their name implies, and do not take its meaning lightly. While directionless angst and narcissistic self-evaluation are indicative of the current climate of heavy rock, Moksha have taken a different path, opting instead to address larger global issues and search for solutions rather than dwell on the problems. Moksha approach every song they write with a sense of urgency; this can be heard in the relentless complex rhythms and anthemic choruses that define the quartet's sound, a fusion of hardcore ideals and metal attitude that is both cathartic and liberating.
Moksha came into being in the year 2000, when Orange County, California natives Marc Anderson (guitar, vocals) and Sean Wedmore (drums) began making music together. Their goal was to create challenging and dynamic heavy music that defied genre clichés. After many false starts, they found a kindred spirit in East Coast transplant Collyn McCoy (bass), who answered an ad they had placed in a local music magazine. Collyn instantly gravitated to the intricate polyrhythms and arrangements of their songs. With a solid rhythm section in place, the three went about the daunting task of finding a singer. After countless auditions, it was evident that the only way they were going to find a singer who shared their musical vision was for them to do it themselves. Marc took up the vocal gauntlet, and Collyn brought in a second guitarist, in the form of fellow East Coaster and Berklee School of Music grad Rob Burns. Now a quartet, they rehearsed tirelessly to create a wall of sound unlike anything on the heavy music scene. Fusing equal parts metal, hardcore, and progressive rock with strong melodies and observational, agitprop lyrics, Moksha are set to redefine heavy music, and bring new life to a genre stifled in the grip of shallow corporate rock.

Press Reviews
"Moksha – Los Angeles. Technical-driven metalcore, imbued with melody & a touch of commercial appeal. Imagine an amalgamation of Meshuggah, Taproot, Blindside, Mudvayne, Candiria, etc. New EP in the works for spring 2003. I’m not a fan of this genre, but this song Safelight rocks. Could this be the next evolution of metalcore?"
