Artist History
Like Wow has recently released their third CD "Burn, World, Burn". Beginning with a romantic, sultry title track, then racing off down a rumbling syncopated "Road o' Burnin' Rubber," these spare, frenzied arrangements build in intensity, blurring genre borders and roadside attractions alike as the record progresses. Jazz, punk, camp, funk, paranoia, psychedelia, horror and humor all come to life in Like Wow's inventive musical vision. In addition to special guest appearances by downtown sax legend Elliott Levin and Railroad Jerk/White Hassle harmonica blower Marcellus Hall, "Burn World Burn" features the trio in it's most heated form yet. Drummer Scott Hartley is also known as a member of the highly influential avant dance band Liquid Liquid (Grand Royal/Mo Wax). Guitar player Carlos Vivanco has played with a wild range of great acts including The Devil's Breakfast, Lydia Lunch, and Don Cherry. Singer/Bassist Thomas Truax started Like Wow and has been it's sole constant member since the release of a first 7" record "Whacked In Waco" in 1993. He is also a stop-motion animator best known for bringing Nick and Johnny, the commentators on MTV's hit series Celebrity Deathmatch, to life. He also publishes an email newsletter, "The Wowtown News", which mixes info about the band with anecdotes about the characters and events in the surreal city of Wowtown where the band spends most of it's off-road time. |
